Sustainability
A Greener Future for our planet
JSM has been an advocate for initiating and implementing sustainable operations and maintenance procedures for our airport clients, it has become one of our core principles. A clean work environment help keeps our planet and JSM Team healthier. Below are some examples utilized.
Our Practices
JSM Airport Services Go Green
Explore our sustainability efforts, minimizing single-use items, training staff in green practices, and embracing eco-friendly solutions.
Refuse
Avoid making unnecessary
purchases of single-use items
- Discontinued the purchase of single-use coffee cups. Our team members were using 1-2 cups daily for tea/coffee, leading to unnecessary material waste.
- Maintain open communication with vendors for accurate lead time estimates, optimizing stock levels to prevent overspending.
- Keeping a well-organized software up to date to avoid poor inventory tracking and ordering mistakes.
Reduce
Limit the number of
materials that are used
- Reduced our plastic container usage by switching from individual oil gallon containers to metal drums.
- Swapping to the metal drum container has reduced our cost of oil -$3 per gallon, reduced plastic container usage and ensured an environmentally friendly disposal of used oil every year.
- Stocking universal components that can be used for different products, reducing waste and inventory size
- Going paperless in many operations
Reuse
Use items more
than once
- To eliminate single use spray bottle cleaning containers. We have upgraded to 1-gallon “Simple Green” jugs that use to fill reusable plastic spray bottles.
- This process eliminates unnecessary plastics from the 24oz single use units and allows us to have additional cost cutting measures per oz.
- Reuse packing materials and supplies to reduce waste
- Buying office supplies in bulk, reducing the need for excess packing materials
Recycle
Choose to purchase and collect
items that are recyclable
- Provided recycle bins for metal, belting and cardboard. Since the recycle process has started, we have scrapped roughly 3-5 tons on material.
- This process has created a safer/cleaner work environment, improved customer satisfaction and helped environmental management cost by crediting our customer for their recycle material.
- Battery recycle program that recovers used batteries
- Recycling oil and hydraulic waste to cut down on greenhouse gas and heavy metal emissions.
Restore
Repair items to a
functional state
- Pepurposed cotton clothing to clean our conveyors. Initially we were using paper shop towels costing the company $3000/year.
- Upgraded to 50-pound reclaimed material costing us $37.50/quarter has reduced costs and environment waste.
- Organize parts, components, and tools so mechanics have everything needed to rebuild parts up to manufacturer standards
- Parts department that inputs data into management software and ensures rebuilds are up to appropriate standards
